Welcome Home Heinz!

After months of being dogless, the empty spot in our house is full! We decided on the name Heinz because of his mutty nature (a real heinz 57 pickle). The internet tells us that it also means "head of the household" in German. We will have to double check that with a friend from Germany, but it would be truly fitting if it does. The shelter where we got him was calling him Cujo, which is fitting only in an ironic way.

When you adopt a dog you never really know what you are getting into, but this dog has fallen right into place at this house. His behavior is beyond great, his only issue is eyeing you longingly for food... which will be hard to break in a family who thinks the way to a dog's heart is by sharing anything you eat. The entire family is waiting on pins and needles to finally hear him bark. The children have been trying to "trick" him into barking to no avail. I have a feeling when he does bark it will scare us to pieces, Tasha rarely barked either; and I'm pretty sure this big boy will have a big bark!

Because of his heartworm treatment, Heinz must stay very calm and not run or play for possibly 3 months! This means we have to kennel him when we leave to be safe. It turns out that the Humans have much more of a problem with this than he does. He climbs right into his crate and lays down whenever he wants. Sometimes he misses though!
